The Arts Alliance of Lemon Bay Featured Artist: Janet Lutz

Janet_Lutz
Teaching art to K-8 students for 25 years led me to investigate many avenues to satisfy my instincts.

Spinning and weaving followed knitting from a young age. Retiring to Florida brought me in contact with the Venetian Society of Basket Weavers.  From there it has a been an adventure. My hobbies have gone wild!  They now include non-traditional Nantucket baskets and also weaving naturals.  Gourds are a great diversion.  My love of line resurfaced in working with sliver wire to create jewelry.  William Holland School provided the background to improve my techniques and skills.  Contact with artists in the field have greatly influenced my work.

My life today can be summarized as a collage of stations, each devoted to a different art form.  One days's urges may be knitting embellishments, while the next phase may be trimming gourds or bending metal.  I look forward each day to a new experience in creativity.

Don Cioffi, Woodturning Artist

Don started turnig about twelve years ago when he met a local wood turner who not only inspired him,
but also took his valuable time to instruct Don.  The type of turning Don does is segmented turning.  Several pieces
are cut and glued together to form a ring and then the rings are glued together and turned into a
specific shape.  He uses a variety of woods such as maple, walnut, cherry,
mahogany and ash.  In addition, Don incorporates more exotic woods like ebony, rosewoods, ipe, and many others.

"To say woodworking is a hobby for me would be an understatement.  It is truely a passion and a labor of love."

SUZANNE'S WORLD

"Throughout my life, a common thread has been a need to capture my sense of place with free expression in color. I see and put color into the essence of nature in my world using watercolor. My thoughts and feelings about my world flow onto the paper and at times are enhanced using acrylic and collage. A recent mixed media work won an "Outstanding Work Award affirming the path I am on.

continue to help me grow in my desire to use my art as a means to communicate my love of color. In 2009 Suzanne moved from Marblehead, Massachusetts to Venice, Florida. Many of her works have been exhibited and won awards in Marblehead, Swampscott and Lynn in Massachusetts and currently in Englewood and Venice, Florida.

Among my professional affiliations are the Marblehead Arts Association, North Shore Arts Association, Englewood Art Association, the Venice Art Center and the Arts Alliance of Lemon Bay.  Visit the Arts Alliance at 452 W. Dearborn St or www.suzannecanner.com.
